Technical Requirements

eTrack will run on a Windows PC, over the Internet or on a Macintosh or Linux computer.

Standard PC Client Server Install over a Network

eTrack is designed to be open all day long on staff's 'client' computers.

Each Client computer has two files: etrack.exe (20Mbytes) and a tiny configuration file. There are no registry settings, DLLs or third party software required.

The Server has the following core folders:
etrack\Help
eTrack\Programs: Install, Maintenance, AlarmService
eTrack\Backup

No registry files, DLLs or third party products are required.

eTrack uses a Microsoft SQL Database (that can be on the same or a different Server to above files) that uses standard Microsoft installation.

eTrack comes with a 'one click' install that does a complete install, so minimal computer knowledge is needed and no need to pay for IT services. This install includes Microsoft SQL Server Express database that is suitable for companies up to about 30 staff and licences are free. For more users, you can change to use a full SQL Server Database if required (licences are extra).

Hardware and Operating System Requirements

Minimum
Server: Pentium 4, Windows Server 2000, 1.5 GHz, 2 Gbyte RAM
Client: Pentium II, Windows 2000, 1.5GHz 1 Gbyte RAM

Ideal
Server: Duel processor, 3GHz, 4Gb RAM, Windows Server 2003
Client: Pentium 4, Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7, 3 GHz 2 Gb RAM

Database Requirements

eTrack comes packaged with Microsoft SQL Server Express suitable for about 30 staff. (Note that SQL Server Express only utilises 1 CPU and 1 Gbyte of memory on the server.)

eTrack also works with SQL Server Version 7, 2000, 2003, 2005, 2008 and all future versions.

eTrack also works with MS Access but this is not recommended due to record locking making it not suitable for multi-user environments like eTrack.

No other third party software is required.

Estimate Hard Disk Sizes (40 user company)

Client: 20 Mbytes each user
Server: 300Mbytes including on line help and GoGlobal.
Database: 300Mbytes (depending on data migration) growing 100Mbyes pa(excluding documents).
(As a guide, for 300 users with 7000 projects, allow 1.5Gbytes.)

Installation Process

Installation involves downloading one file and running on the server. Then running the 'client install' on each client computer. The client install only ever happens once since upgrades are automatically rolled out.

Browser / Internet Access

All eTrack functionality can be accessed over the Internet using a browser with excellent performance, for example from home, another office or while you are on site. This is the exactly the same functionality, look and feel (so no additional training is needed).

Macintosh or Linux Access

eTrack can be used on Macintosh or Linux computers using a browser.  The same complete functionality as described in this web site is available.

A single Macintosh computer that has an Intel chip is required as the server.    Parallels or VM Ware (or equivalent) is required that allows Microsoft Windows to be installed and run at the same time as the Macintosh operating system.  eTrack can then be fully installed using the same 'one click' install program, complete with a Microsoft SQL Server Express database.

All users can then access eTrack via their browser such as Firefox or Safari over your network, all simultaneously accessing the same centralised database.

If you wish, the same technology can be used to access eTrack remotely over the Internet such as from another office or from home.    As a bonus, any other windows application you are running in the windows environment on the server can also be accessed over the Internet or network via a browser.

Please contact eTrack at info@etrack.com.au for a demonstration.
